General & Preventive Veterinary Medicine

General and preventive veterinary medicine is at the heart of your animal’s care. It represents the foundation of our daily practice. It includes all routine care, first-line diagnostics, and preventive measures to ensure long-term good health for your dog, cat, or exotic pet (NAC).

It is often the first point of contact between you, your pet, and the veterinary team: it helps identify early signs of illness, update sanitary protections, and provide advice on all aspects of animal welfare.

Objectives:

  • Ensure regular monitoring of your pet’s health
  • Prevent the onset of diseases through targeted preventive measures
  • Detect potential disorders or abnormalities early
  • Implement personalized protocols for vaccination, deworming, or nutrition

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

What is general and preventive veterinary medicine?

+

General medicine is the foundation of veterinary care. It covers health examinations, the diagnosis of common illnesses, prevention, and the ongoing monitoring of your pet throughout its life. Preventive medicine, on the other hand, aims to prevent the onset of diseases through vaccination, deworming, nutrition, and early screening.

When should you consult in general veterinary medicine?

+

It is recommended to have a consultation at least once a year for a preventive health check, even if your pet appears to be healthy. You should also consult a veterinarian as soon as any unusual symptoms appear, such as changes in behavior, loss of appetite, vomiting, coughing, lameness, itching, etc.

What procedures are carried out during a general veterinary consultation?

+

During the consultation, the veterinarian performs a complete clinical examination (weight, temperature, auscultation, palpation, inspection of the eyes, ears, teeth, skin, etc.). They may also offer:

  • Vaccination updates

  • Antiparasitic treatment

  • Advice on diet, hygiene, or behavior

  • Prescription of additional tests if necessary (laboratory tests, imaging, etc.)

Why is prevention so important?

+

Prevention helps protect your pet against many infectious or parasitic diseases, which can sometimes be serious or incurable. It also helps detect certain conditions early (kidney failure, diabetes, arthritis, etc.) before they worsen. Proper preventive care extends your pet’s lifespan and improves their quality of life.
