Veterinary Surgery

Veterinary surgery is an essential discipline that allows the treatment of many conditions, the correction of abnormalities, or the relief of pain in companion animals. It includes both elective procedures (such as sterilization) and curative, reconstructive, or emergency surgeries.

In our clinic, every procedure is carried out following strict protocols for safety, hygiene, and your pet’s comfort.

To ensure the best possible outcome, some procedures are performed by external specialists in the field.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

What is veterinary surgery?

+

Veterinary surgery encompasses all procedures performed under anesthesia to treat medical, traumatic, or congenital conditions. It can be preventive, curative, or diagnostic. This includes both routine procedures (such as spaying or neutering) and specialized surgeries (digestive, orthopedic, skin, etc.).

When does my pet need to undergo surgery?

+

Surgery may be recommended in several cases:

  • Elective surgeries: spaying, neutering

  • Curative surgeries: tumor removal, fracture treatment, gastric torsion

  • Emergency surgeries: deep wounds, intestinal obstruction, cesarean section

  • Diagnostic surgeries: sampling, biopsies

The veterinarian will always explain the indications, risks, and alternatives before any procedure.

How is a surgery performed?

+

“Before the surgery, a pre-anesthetic assessment is performed to evaluate your pet’s health. The procedure is carried out under sterile conditions, with appropriate anesthesia that is continuously monitored. After surgery, the animal is placed in a monitored recovery area, and postoperative care (pain relief, antibiotics, e-collar, bandages, etc.) is provided as needed.

How should I prepare and monitor my pet after surgery

+

Before surgery, a fasting period is generally required (6 to 12 hours depending on the species). After the operation, you should monitor:

  • Wound healing

  • General condition (appetite, behavior, pain)

  • Adherence to the prescribed treatment

A follow-up appointment is often scheduled a few days after surgery. If any abnormalities occur, contact the clinic immediately.
